Community engagements on Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance (CDRFI)

CISONECC with support from the Government of Germany through CARE German and CARE Malawi is implementing the Multi-stakeholder Partnership on Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Preparedness in the context of the InsuResilience Global Partnership (InsuResilience MAPs) which aims to foster Climate and Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance (CDRFI) issues in Malawi

Through this project, CISONECC conducted three community engagement meetings on CDRFI that were held from 17th to 19th February, 2021 in Nsanje, Chikwawa and Zomba. The engagements targeted communities from T/A Mbenje in Nsanje, Group Village Head (GVH) Mchacha in Chikwawa and GVH Magoli in Zomba. Further CISONECC partnered with Nyanthepa community radio in Nsanje, Chibvomerezi community radio in Chikwawa and YONECO radio station in Zomba who recorded and aired the proceedings of the community engagements.

Particularly, the meetings intended to raise awareness on CDRFI to community members; and to disseminate information on the existing initiatives and interventions on CDRFI including the African Risk Capacity (ARC). The meetings contributed to raising awareness on CDRFI was raised amongst Malawian communities residing in Nsanje, Chikwawa and Zomba. Additionally, information on some of the existing CDRFI initiatives including the ARC risk pool were shared with the district and community level stakeholders.
