CISONECC, with support from Irish Aid through Trōcaire under the Resource Rights Programme (RRP); Climate Advocacy Project (CAP) conducted a meeting with representatives of the Parliamentary Committees on Natural Resources and Climate Change; Budget and Finance; Legal Affairs; Public Accounts; Public Appointments; Health; Local authorities and Rural Development; Agriculture and Irrigation; Government Assurances; HIV/AIDS and Nutrition; Education, Science and Technology; International Relations; Industry, Trade and Tourism; Social and Community Affairs; Media, Information and Communications; Commissions, Statutory Corporations and State Enterprises; and Women Caucus. The meeting was conducted on 25th March 2021 in Mponela, Dowa.
Particularly, the meeting was aimed at re-orienting Members of Parliament on the key provisions of the Draft DRM Bill and further discuss the need to urgently finalise and adopt the Bill so that the Ministry of Forestry and Natural Resources should table the Draft DRM Bill and parliament to pass it to enhance national resilience-building efforts.
The meeting was successfully conducted with representatives of the 17 committees of the national assembly. Members of the National Assembly also demonstrated eagerness towards supporting the bill once tabled in parliament.For more read report here
