CISONECC Press Statement on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management

Following the Fresh Presidential Elections of 23rd June, 2020 that ushered in a new Government led by His Excellency, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the Right Honorable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima State President and Vice President of the Republic of Malawi respectively, CISONECC, with support from Scottish Government through Trocaire and SCIAF under the Climate Challenge Program Malawi – Climate Justice Advocacy Project (CCPM-CJAP) conducted a press briefing to communicate the demands of CISONECC to the newly elected President and the Members of Parliament on 31st July, 2020. CISONECC also released a press statement with the recommendations highlighted during the press briefing targeting the country’s new leadership in the Nation Newspaper on Monday, 03rd August, 2020.

Specifically, the press briefing was conducted to congratulate the newly elected state president and vice president, share the demands of the stakeholders in the Climate Change Management and Disaster Risk Management sectors, and to state stakeholders’ concerns over the absence and lack of clarity on the Ministry responsible for Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Management and Climate Change Management in the newly instituted cabinet.

Through this press briefing CISONECC was able to share the demands and concerns in line with climate change and disaster risk management issues to the Government through the distinguished media houses that patronized the event.
